Costa Rica in the most flexible way

For this month’s newsletter we thought it was time to shed some light on all the short-term volunteers ACI Costa Rica receives every year.
People who want to volunteer for a shorter period of time have a broad spectrum of options. They can choose ACI’s own program “Work Camps’’ or take a closer look on the other options, as there are: “ICYE”, “STePs” and “Alliance”.
The different programs all offer projects concerning ecological and social issues, and they all have flexible starting dates, which allows volunteers to travel at short notice and combine an individual travel with the joy of volunteering.
Participants of the “Alliance” program work together with 10-20 other volunteers from all over the world for 2-3 weeks, while participants of the Work Camps and STePs program usually work together with fewer other volunteers - and they can decide to stay for just some weeks or up to 5 months.
David for example came with the STePs program to Costa Rica and will stay for four months – three months of working, one month of traveling. The Austrian guy just graduated from school and now wants to gain some experience in a different country: “I always wanted to get to know a new culture for more than just a few weeks”, he says. He lives with his host family in Zapote and works in a children´s home called “Casa de Pan”, which is run by a married couple since almost 40 years. But why did he choose Costa Rica?“ First of all I want to improve my Spanish. Besides everyone of my family who came here was overwhelmed by the country. So the decision was easy.”
So it´s easy to see that ACI has got a lot of different option for short term volunteers. Not to forget: the NGO also organizes group volunteering experiences for high schools, universities, and many different youth groups. With the help of ACI, many people get the chance to experience what it is like to work voluntarily in a country that is different from their own.For this month’s newsletter we thought it was time to shed some light on all the short-term volunteers ACI Costa Rica receives every year.
